PRE-COURSE ACTIVITIES
Access to the online learning & assessment material will be issued once you have completed your enrolment form and paid for your course/s on-line (Check your booking confirmation email for details for how to log into the student portal)
You will need to study the on-line theory modules and answer the on-line quizzes, which cover all the rules and regulations, information about boating safety and everything you need to know to pass your Boating Knowledge Test.
A medical fitness disclosure statement will need to be completed and given to your trainer prior to course commencement, you may also email this ahead of time to info@qmts.edu.au

WHAT TO BRING

You will need to bring your Australian Photo Drivers Licence (or other acceptable proof of Identification).

Clothing: |
Clothing should be casual clothing suitable for the practical boating components.
Shoes should be deck shoes, joggers, sandshoes or work boots (no open-toe shoes such as thongs). For students completing a Jetski Licence (PWDL) – Personal Safety gear including PFD’s (lifejackets) will be provided by QMTS Training |
BOATING KNOWLEDGE TEST
- The Boating Knowledge Test consists of 50 multiple choice questions. You are required to get all questions correct to pass.
- These tests are not available online.
- The Boating Knowledge Test and practical test must be completed face-to-face in the presence of an accredited Maritime Trainer and Assessor.
- Please note: Language and learning difficulties are not catered for with this course, it is a requirement of the QLD Transport and Main Roads Department that you must be able to read English to attempt the relevant knowledge tests. If you have reading and writing difficulties, contact Maritime Safety Queensland.
APPLYING FOR A BOAT OR JET SKI LICENCE
You need to be at least 16 years old and complete and pass a Boatsafe course. This includes both the knowledge test and a practical course.
Once you have passed the course with QMTS Training, the trainer will give you a statement of competency for you to lodge to apply for your licence.
To apply for a licence go to the nearest transport and motoring customer service centre that provides marine licensing services (call to confirm prior) and bring with you:
- The statement of competency (this is only valid for 6 months from the date of issue)
- Marine licence application
- Proof of identity
- Sufficient money to pay the fees
COMPLAINTS and APPEALS
Should you at any time wish to lodge a complaint, you can do so by contacting your trainer or the Chief Executive Officer of QMTS Training on 07 3186 6930.

HOW TO PROCEED FROM HERE
- Select your desired date for your practical assessment.
- Enrol and pay for your course on-line
- Complete the online theory course at your own pace in one session or over multiple sessions (progress is recorded so you can resume from where you left off each time).
- When you have completed your online theory course confirm your practical training and assessment day by calling the QMTS Training Office (3186 6930)
- Once competent you will be issued with your statement of competency. It must be presented to Transport and Main Roads Queensland (TMR) within 6 months, upon payment of their processing fee you will receive your licence.
We also provide higher qualifications for a Master up to 24m, Master up to 35m, Master up to 35m Upgrade, Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 and Marine Engine Driver Grade 3.
