Q1: What is the AMSA Oral Exam, and why is it important?
The AMSA oral examination is the final assessment of competency before the issuance of a Certificate of Competency (CoC). It evaluates a candidate’s knowledge and decision-making abilities relevant to their certificate level, ensuring compliance with the standards outlined in Marine Order 505.

Q3: Do I have to complete an application to AMSA before sitting the orals exam?
No. You have up to 12 months to complete all the requirements of your application to AMSA for your CoC after sitting the oral exam.
Q4: What is the QMTS Orals Prep Program?
An intensive, face-to-face training course focused on preparing candidates for the AMSA oral exam through oral competency training, mock assessments, and expert guidance.
Q5: Who can enrol in the program?
Completed M45 Students joining from 08 September 2025
Q6: What is included in the course fee?
The course fee includes all face-to-face training, mock orals, group work, and coaching.
It does not include AMSA exam or application fees.
Q7: What are the enrolment requirements?
You must have completed the Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Master <45m), submitted an application, and paid the program fee.
Q8: How long does the program run?
2 weeks and 1 day
Q9: Do I have to attend every day?
Yes, daily attendance is mandatory.
Q10: Is the program available online?
No. This program is only available face-to-face.
Q11: Am I guaranteed to pass my orals first time doing this program?
No there is no guarantee that you will pass first time.
