COURSE DESCRIPTION
This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in performing core skills in outdoor recreation environments and assisting with the conduct of a range of outdoor activities.
Indicative job roles for this qualification are: Outdoor Activity Assistant | Outdoor Participant
This qualification offers a pathway to work for any type of organisation that delivers outdoor recreation activities including commercial, not-for-profit and government organisations
This qualification reflects the role of individuals who assist with operational logistics and the delivery of recreational activities, who work under direct supervision and with guidance from those responsible for planning, finalising and delivering activities, including program managers and leaders.
Assistants use a range of fundamental activity techniques during activities and can work in indoor and outdoor recreation environments, adventure learning centres or camps.
NOTES:
The combined skills and knowledge provided by this qualification do not provide for a job outcome as a leader. Further training would be required before moving into a leadership role. No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

COURSE DELIVERY
The Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation will include face-to-face training, e-learning units for the SCUBA Diving clusters, land-based and water-based activities. The course will also include various online and classroom study activities.
Students undertaking the SCUBA Diving electives will undertake four (4) open water dives. These dives will be completed over a two (2) day duration during the face-to-face component of the school holiday course program.
Work may be undertaken as part of a team and will be performed under supervision. Work will be undertaken in field locations such as camps or indoor recreation centres or facilities, in differing environments such as water-based, dry land and mountainous terrains, using a diverse range of equipment.
Students completing the SCUBA Electives will be required to complete the PADI e-learning modules for SCUBA Diving prior to the the end of the first week in-class.

ENTRY and ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
SCUBA Diving Units: Students must meet the medical requirements of our Dive Providers to be able to participate in the SCUBA Diving elective. Students who select the SCUBA Diving elective will be required to complete a Dive Medical as part of their enrolment.
Age restrictions: QMTS Training will accept enrolments from students before their 16th birthday provided they meet all other admission requirements.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Technology
As some of the resources are contained in a dedicated learner portal, a student must have access to a computer with Microsoft Office 365 software.
Students will need to bring a laptop to class with them to access their student learner portal during classroom training and assessments.
Free Wi-Fi is available during classroom training.
Students require basic computer skills to complete the course without disadvantage.

ASSESSMENT PROCEDURES
A combination of Practical, Oral and Theory assessments will be undertaken. The assessments may consist of written projects, picture portfolios, quizzes, assignments and exams.
Assessments
Students will access all on-line assessments via their aXcelerate Student Learner Portal.
There will be two types of assessments –
Students are allowed three (3) submissions in total (initial submission and two (2) resubmissions) for each assessment
If you are deemed to be Not Competent (NC) in a unit (after three (3) theory or three (3) practical assessment attempts, or due to disciplinary action) you will need to re-enrol in that unit and pay the unit enrolment fee to be able to re-attempt the unit assessment
After an unsuccessful second submission, A QMTS Training Assessor may contact the student by phone to provide additional training to assist the student to complete the third submission, which may be conducted orally over the phone.
QUALITY and COMPLIANCE
QMTS Training is the RTO responsible for the quality and compliance of the nationally recognised training being delivered and is also the RTO that will issue any qualification or Statement of Attainment certificate to eligible learners.
