This course will get you out of the classroom and into the world of outdoor adventure, giving you first-hand experience of the outdoor recreation industry, and a set of foundational skills that you can take into a variety of different careers.
Whether you’re aiming to kickstart a career in outdoor recreation, or looking for some additional QCE points, this course provides a hands-on learning experience that makes every day an adventure.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in performing core skills in outdoor recreation environments and assisting with the conduct of a range of outdoor activities.
Indicative job roles for this qualification are: Outdoor Activity Assistant | Outdoor Participant
This qualification offers a pathway to work for any type of organisation that delivers outdoor recreation activities including commercial, not-for-profit and government organisations.
This qualification reflects the role of individuals who assist with operational logistics and the delivery of recreational activities, who work under direct supervision and with guidance from those responsible for planning, finalising and delivering activities, including program managers and leaders.
Assistants use a range of fundamental activity techniques during activities and can work in indoor and outdoor recreation environments, adventure learning centres or camps.
NOTES:
The combined skills and knowledge provided by this qualification do not provide for a job outcome as a leader. Further training would be required before moving into a leadership role. No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.
COURSE UNITS - MOOLOOLABA
This qualification consists of 4 core units & 7 elective units* which must all be completed to satisfy the requirements of the training package.
*5 of 7 elective units are pre-determined by the RTO, 2 of 7 elective units are determined by the student’s choice of elective activity:Â SCUBA Diving, Surfing, Kayaking, or Jet-Skiing.

Students will be awarded qualifications or licences listed above only on completion of the SIS20419 Certificate II Outdoor Recreation course in its entirety.
QCE points are awarded by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA). The number of QCE points awarded for a partially-completed course is determined by QCAA.

COURSE DELIVERY
The Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation course is a face-to-face course delivered over 10 days during the school holidays, in a combination of classroom-style delivery and collaborative outdoor learning experiences.
Course work will be undertaken in field locations such as outdoor or indoor recreation centres or facilities, in differing environments such as water-based, dry land and mountainous terrains, using a diverse range of equipment.
ENTRY and ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
SCUBA Diving Units: Students must meet the medical requirements of our Dive Providers to be able to participate in the SCUBA Diving elective. Students who select the SCUBA Diving elective will be required to complete a Dive Medical as part of their enrolment.
Age restrictions: QMTS Training will accept enrolments from students before their 16th birthday provided they meet all other admission requirements.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Technology
As most of the resources are contained in a dedicated student learning portal, students must have access to a computer with Microsoft Office 365 software.
Students will need to bring a laptop to class with them to access their student learning portal during classroom training and assessments.
Free Wi-Fi is available during classroom training.
Students require basic computer skills to complete the course without disadvantage.
ASSESSMENT PROCEDURES
A combination of practical, oral and theory assessments will be undertaken. The assessments may consist of written projects, picture portfolios, quizzes, assignments and exams.
QUALITY and COMPLIANCE
QMTS Training is the RTO responsible for the quality and compliance of the nationally recognised training being delivered and is also the RTO that will issue any qualification or Statement of Attainment certificate to eligible learners.
